short films

A short film is a motion picture not long enough to be a featured film.

A short film last 40 minutes running. In the United States short films were generally termed “short subjects” from the 1920s and 1970s. They were confined to two 35 minute reels or less.

Short films are often screened at local, national or independent film festivals and are made by independent filmmakers with low budgets.

A feature film/ feature-length film or theatrical films are films which are long enough to be considered as principal/sole films which can fill programs. The time varies depending on the place which is screened at. British film institute and American film institute believe a feature film runs more than 40 minutes, while screen actors guild asserts believe feature running films running time is 75 minutes longer.

PART ONE OF HW

What is a production schedule and how does it relate to our emphasis on the importance of timescales ?

A production schedule is something used to keep things running smoothly and up to date it is where deadlines are set and the times and dates production needs to be done before that deadline.

The production schedule starts with the script which is broken down and analysed bit by bit. Each scene helps decide the resources for that day of shooting.

timescales

Timescales are important as it keeps production on track and helps production not waste more money on location or equipment as people aren't always reliable. This brings up the biggest issue with media production people are not always available with equipment, crew,or facilities.

Media producers are key players in keeping timesceduals and making sure that resources  and availability of personnel meet deadlines. Producers need to select a reliable screw which can meet deadlines. Failing to meet these deadlines in just one area of production for example an actor being ill, can make others fall behind therefore everything is held back. While creating the timesceduals producers always have to leave time for feedback and screening to be able to edit and perfect there film.

Timesceduals are a plan in which budgets are made; it is where the script and the breakdown of each scene, then the making of a breakdown sheet which records all resources for the shot :

A production schedule is very important for timescales as it allows each step to be completed on the time it's meant to.

deadlines

Logistics - deadlines

It is key to meet deadlines within film making and not meeting expectations of these deadlines means the film will fail.

Deadlines are very important, on the one hand time schedules have to be constant and play a prime aspect to logistics. However on the other hand depending on how large the project is; secure funding is more important in some respects.

In pre-production its the manager's responsibility to look over the production process and create the time schedules to insure that all sides of pre-production occur and happen on time. This is very important as if obstacles such as an actor/actress becoming ill or trouble with securing a location can extend planning and delay the filming process. The significant of budget can turn negative.

Consequences of not securing such elements such as location for example could delay a whole days worth of shooting which messes up with the deadlines and pushes back all scheduling.
